Still can't seem to recreate it, oh well. No Biggie.
Can't seem to recreate that second "feature". Seem to loose the same amount of speed no matter what. Seems reasonable too because the cars probably have the same code anyway.
I think the cars are coded so they can jump from lane to lane at super speed, and they are also only 1 pixel thick, this is so their Ai doesn't have to be that good and there won't be any collisions. I think.
Number 2 is a good observation. Have to check that out.

I think i hit 1:55 on my second lap when I first tested the game for bono.

20 laps would be 40 minutes of unpaused racing, I dunno if Bono has the tech skills to code a pause button. Id be ok with 5, you can't have 5 lucky laps in a row...
I like the idea of 3 laps actually.
